Keeping Up With The Joneses

By Karen McGreevey Your shingle, proclaiming Jane or Joe Smith Virtual Assistant Services, bounces around and blows in the cyber-wind. Proudly, and rightly so, you sport your membership in several like organizations and online networking forums. But where do you go from here? How do you build upon your current knowledge, skills and abilities as you work to increase your local/global awareness and visibility? And at what cost? Particularly since many of your hard-earned pennies have already been set aside for start-up, for marketing, and for ongoing office essentials! Word of mouth, in this case that word garnered from interaction with members and guests at industry message boards (such as the virtual assistant forums), can become the charcoal starter to whoosh your business bonfire into action. Theres barely a greater catalyst than talking up something with someone who gets you! Since youre already connected to the internet, youll not want to hesitate to let Yahoo and Google be your friends. Take the time to cruise around various like-minded message boards and websites, and sites you may see in signature lines of posters at the forums you frequent; sign up for their newsletters or any other special offers. You can also nose around Ryze.com, a business networking forum. Read Entrepreneur and other industry magazines. Even articles written by industry peers submitted to various article databanks are a great resource to discover the availability of upcoming and ongoing teleconferences, teleseminars, teleclasses, and other online workshops. Now, you may argue that you cant attend a tele-anything; whether its a teleconference, a teleseminar, an online wokshop, or an e-session by any other name. It surely cant be because you dont have anything to wear; these sessions can be attended from your home (office) in your choice of the comfort of your pajamas, your shorts, your high heels or any other desired get-up. Only you and your hairdresser will know for sure. Is your argument that youre technologically-challenged? There are now, on the market, many easy-to-use software programs and electronic devices to enable ease of attendance at these classes and seminars. Additionally, moderators of these presentations are ready and willing to tutor those less inclined toward cyber technology. Fellow attendees are eagerly provide basic start up lessons to get you into that specific e-mode of learning, and help to keep you there. Once youve zeroed in on a venue, a presenter and a course topic, think not only about what youll be getting, but about what actually is happening here. Youre getting a tremendous opportunity to interact with like-minded individuals from around the country (thats the country, people); how else can you attend an e-happening located in Canada, interact with persons from England and Australia and New Zealand, as you physically sit in your office (or lounge in a recliner in your living room) in Texas, USA? The savings for the seminar/class in time and money alone are incredible because you arent spending day/s traveling; nor is it necessary to up-end your piggy bank to pay for travel costs, and high-priced meals. Lodging, too, on such trips, though probably at a group rate, can further strain a small budget. Even though online sessions by design encompass several time zones, youll still be able to weave yourself throughout your familys needs as you enjoy the e-presentation. You can take notes during the class, and have more than ample opportunity to ask questions. If a session is scheduled at a time that conflicts with another session you want to attend because a time zone is not quite compatible with yours, or some other challenge unexpectedly interferes, an audio recording will be available to review later. In fact, the recordings are an added benefit because you can leisurely listen to and digest the recorded presentations at your own speed at a date and time you choose. How often does Microsoft change its programs? Or how frequently do Compaq and Gateway design and market new computers and other hardware? In order to remain competitive and noticeable in todays corporate world, whether thats the brick and mortar variety or the cyber highway, its essential to continually strive to increase ones marketability. Toward this end, its imperative for Virtual Assistants to persist in their search for the means to obtain additional knowledge and skills that will continue to shape and increase their existing capabilities as they guard against becoming outdated and stagnant. To this end, one method from which to really benefit is an online teleclass/seminar; the advantages youll receive will be enhanced and matched by the emphasis you put into them. We truly are in an incredible day and age to be able to participate in sessions such as these. Accordingly, in order to grow, its important to not lose the vision that though the Client may have the oldest and slowest, he will be seeking the Virtual Assistant with the newest and fastest ilk — the thoroughly modern one. Of course its keeping up with the Joneses; but its also taking the right steps to be where you need to be to survive and thrive in an ever-changing industry As a gifted Virtual Assistant, Karen McGreevey, owner and founder of Konceptuality, specializes in facilitating editorial and administrative support services to small business Writers, Editors and Authors. What in the World are Stem Cells?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Yvonne_Garcia] Yvonne Garcia Here is a short, but maybe too technical overview of stem cells. You might finding it boring, but honestly the more informed we are the better. So make it a light read if you must, but there is a lot of exciting news out there about adult stem cells that you might want to keep you ear open for. Growth Cycle of Stem Cells Stem cell research has been seeing a large increase recently. This is because of the medical implications involved in the potentials of stem cells. The most basic explanation for stem cells would be that stem cells are perfectly self replicating cells which hold the potential to become any other type of cell within a human body. Stem cells, therefore, are like a pool of unformed building blocks that our bodies hold in reserve for times when our physiological needs demand an increase in a certain type of cell say, the need for more muscle tissue or white blood cells. When the body needs an influx of these additional cells, the stem cells of the body then evolve into these necessary cell types. From a medical standpoint, the potentials of cultured stem cells are astounding. A person may actually be allowed to regrow a limb or an internal organ using stem cells, as well as to get a completely clean blood stream via an infusion of fresh blood cells created from stem cells. On an even more advanced note, stem cells are perfectly self-replicating in nature, meaning that unlike other normal cells which suffer some degree of genetic degradation when they replicate, stem cells remain the same no matter the number of times they replicate. The process of aging comes from the natural degradation of the body’s other cells through repeated replication, as well as a decrease in the body’s number of overall stem cells to replace lost cells. It is believed that infusions of stem cells may actually retard or even completely halt a person’s aging process. Whatever the case may be, research into this field involves analysis of the four different types of stem cells. Two of these are classified as embryonic, meaning that they occur only in unformed fetuses, while the other two types of stem cells occur only in developed adults. The four types of stem cells, according to their place in the growth cycle, are as follows: Totipotent Stem Cells - these are the first few cells created after the initial meeting of sperm and egg cell. These cells have the highest development potential, as they mature into embryonic and extraembryonic cells within the womb, essentially forming both the actual fetus and the surrounding membrane and placenta within the womb that houses the fetus. Pluripotent Stem Cells - these are the totipotent stem cells which have evolved specifically to form the actual body parts of the growing fetus. Each pluripotent stem cell carries within it the potential to become any end every body part of the developing fetus. Those medical researchers and scientists who specialize in the study of embryonic as opposed to adult stem cells often focus their studies on this type of cell. These are the most stable stem cells and also have the most potential to become literally anything in a human body. Multipotent Stem Cells - once a fetus is fully formed and born, his or her body will no longer have pluripotent stem cells in great number. Most of the person’s stem cells will now have evolved into multipotent stem cells. These stem cells are still raw material that can evolve into different body cells, but multipotent stem cells are usually categorized by purpose, and can only evolve now into certain specialized types of cells. For example, some of these cells can become bone marrow and red or white blood cells. Others can become any type of nerve or synapse. Still others can form muscle tissue and bone. Scientists who study adult stem cells as opposed to embryonic ones usually focus their studies on this type. They retain the stability of pluripotent cells but are more limited in the scope of what they can actually evolve into. Unipotent Stem Cells - the final evolution of stem cells are unipotent stem cells. These cannot evolve into anything, and simply replicate to make simple copies of themselves. However, unlike regular cells, they do not suffer from degradation due to repeated self replication. However, while they can no longer evolve into another type of cell, these cells have the ability to actually produce another type of cell for the body. For example, there are unipotent stem cells which create increased numbers of white blood cells to combat infection, and others which generate more skin and muscle tissue to heal wounds. It is believed that these cells hold the secret to slowing down aging, as a gradual decrease in the body’s overall number of unipotent cells and the resultant other cells they produce for the body is what causes aging. These four stages form the natural life cycle of a stem cell, and it is believed that by understanding each one and their effects on the development of the human body, great advances in medicine may be achieved. Currently, more focus is being diverted to research for adult stem cells, as the research of embryonic stem cells involves harvesting these cells from unborn fetuses. We all have adult stem cells and or own bone marrow releases them everyday. Getting a good night sleep is one of the best wayt to help your bone marrow deliver more adult stem cells to your body. Now, there exists a patented stem cell nutritional product with a triple blind study to back it. Do not just think the stem cell debate is a phase, it is not. As much as I have not wanted to pay much attention to it, I am now. Stem cells can save your life, help regenerate your body and the “discovery” of their existence is really a wonderful one in the end. What all of this meanings to anti-aging prospects can only be imagined. Lets hope that they are not misused. Yvonne Garcia is the publisher and author of numerous websites and blogs, many on health. The topic of stem cells and stem cell nutrition is the latest. Medical Care Is Just A Click Away

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bob_Dean] Bob Dean I no longer miss work to go to the doctor. I no longer wait hours sitting in a doctor’s office just to see the doctor. In the past, after seeing the doctor, I now no longer have to wait at a pharmacy to get my prescriptions filled. I now get medical treatment and prescriptions without leaving the house. I get all of this and it’s just a click away. Not only a click away, but its also legal. Today’s online pharmacies has made it very convenient for people who already know what their diagnosis is, and already know what medications work for them. Having said that, by no means am I recommending online pharmacies taking the place of your physician. What I am saying is a good reputable online pharmacy, with U. S. Physicians & Pharmacies, who prescribe FDA approved meds, is a great convenient, cheaper way to obtain medications for people who already know what meds they need. Also for people who don’t have a regular physician at the time, but still need the care of a licensed physician. Only use online pharmacies located in the U. S, with U. S. Physicians & U. S. Pharmacies. Only use online pharmacies that require medical records where you actually speak to the physician on the phone. At that time you can ask any questions you may have, and the physician can ask you any questions about your treatment and medications needed. After my consultation with the physician, I receive my prescriptions the next day, shipped overnight, with two refills (a 90 day supply). In today’s times where a lot of people like me who just don’t have the time missing work to go to the doctor, a reputable online pharmacy is a wonderful, cheaper alternative. I am a pain management patient as well, so even people who suffer from chronic pain, with proper medical records, can obtain the proper pain medication needed to live a more productive and better quality of life. Will New Rules From the Bush Administration Help Medicaid?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_R] Mark R According to the New York Times, on Monday the Bush administration proposed a new rule to reduce reimbursements to pharmacists for Medicaid beneficiaries. If implemented, the new rule is expected to save $8.4 billion dollars over the next five years, $4.9 billion in federal savings and $3.5 billion in local savings for states. The rule would make sure that Medicaid is receiving the same discounts on prescription drugs as other private entities such as Caremark Rx and Medco Health Solutions which manage and negotiate drug benefits for people that receive their health insurance through an employer. The Department of Human and Health Services has estimated that the majority of the savings (90%) would come from local pharmacies. The rest of the savings would come from the drug manufacturers which would be required to give price concessions on some specific drugs prescribed at the doctors office. Although the plan could save money it could also hurt local pharmacies. The New York Times says, The rule could reduce revenues for many of the nations 18,000 small retail pharmacies. The administration also said it had no way to measure that impact precisely, though it acknowledged the reductions could fall particularly hard on those in low-income areas where there are high concentrations of Medicaid beneficiaries. Officials told the New York Times that a loss of revenue could be avoided by finding cheaper sources of prescription medication. This is of course assuming a cheaper source for medications can be found. Bruce T. Roberts the executive vice president of the National Community Pharmacists Association commented, The proposed rule would have the perverse effect of discouraging the use of generic drugs. What are Bed Comforters?

By Corine Bachmann A bed comforter is a like a bedspread for your bed, only fluffier and thicker than the normal run of the mill bed cover. You will find that the comforter for the bed is stuffed, where most bedspreads are not. Where can I buy a bed comforter? You will find that you are able to purchase a comforter for your bed at most any retail store. From fine department stores, to most discount stores, comforters are actually not hard to come by. You will even find that you can purchase a comforter for your bed from shopping online. Are bed comforters heavy? Most comforters that you buy for your bed are heavy. However, you will find that the comforters that are made from down are heavier than most poly filled or cotton comforters. Another heavy comforter that you might find for your bed is the denim comforter. Because this comforter is made from heavy denim, it is a little heavier than most. Can I use a bed comforter on my bed all year round? Yes you will find that you can use your comforter on your bed year round if you like. However, during the warmer months, you may get a little warm underneath it, and find yourself folding it down when it is time to crawl in the bed so that you will not get too hot. Can I buy a bed comforter in any color? Yes you will find that comforters for your bed are available for purchase in many different colors, you should have no problem finding the color of comforter that you are looking for. How do you wash a bed comforter? You will want to pay special attention to and read the care instructions for your comforter for your bed before you go and stuff it into the washing machine. However, if the comforter that you have is machine washable, you will want to take it to a laundry mat and use a commercial size washing machine to clean it. Doing this will save your washing machine from tearing up, as well as your comforter. Corine has worked in the furniture industry for more than 15 years and has experience in fitting the best comforters with the customer’s needs. Wedding Invitatation RSVP Cards

By Kevin Stith When it comes to response/RSVP cards, the goal is to get a response. Whether selecting a card with a self-addressed, either by hand or computer printed labels, and pre-stamped envelope or an economic post card with your address on one side and the guest response on the other, do what works best for you. You can personalize the response with a handwritten note or print it with standard or customized wording. A helpful hint for keeping the RSVP process on track and organized is to lightly number each card on the back and correspond it with a numbered guest list. It is customary for the response cards to go to the host of the wedding, but the bride can request they remain sealed until the responses can be opened together. The response card can be addressed to you as long as the address of the host appears on the back of the main envelope to indicate they formally sent the wedding invitation. The caterer insists on a final guest count about a week before the wedding, so dont be shy about calling those who havent sent in their RSVP by the set date. Often close friends and family members assume you know theyre coming and they fail to even return the first phone call. Let a parent or your fianc make the second call to communicate how sorry they are the guest will be unable to attend and how they hope to see them at another gathering soon. This usually brings forth a quick response from even the most dedicated procrastinator. Creative wording for your wedding invitations is all about expressing yourself creatively and wedding invitation etiquette is a guide to expressing yourself appropriately. Wedding Invitations Info provides information on cheap, unique, and do-it-yourself wedding invitations, plus wedding shower invitations, and advice on wedding invitation wording. Your Wellness: What You Can Do Part 3

By Terry Coyier Part three of this four part series on wellness for the person suffering from bipolar disorder will discuss the importance of routines and creative outlets. Routines Yes, I knowboring! As unexciting as routines are, for someone with bipolar they can be the foundation needed to reestablish a healthy and productive life. Routines can help eradicate the unexpected out of your life. They keep you from feeling overwhelmed at every turn. I am the type of person who becomes bored by routines quite easily, but since my first inpatient treatment I have not been able to handle many situations without advance preparation. So I integrated some rituals into my life so that on days when I’m not feeling up to par, I can still function with minimal effort. Everyone has a certain amount of routine in their life but when you are bipolar the more simplicity, the better. If it helps, think of them as shortcuts. Or think of them in terms of trash. If trash collectors didn’t have a scheduled day to pick up your garbage each week, how would you know when to put it out? Here are some suggestions: ~*~ I can be indecisive, so I pick out my clothes the night before. This way if I wake up late, which will fluster me, I don’t have the added pressure of coming up with something to wear. Some people take this idea a step further and actually hang their clothes in “preset” outfits so all they do is grab and go. Customization is the key to making routines work for you. ~*~ I am not a morning person so I try to do as much as possible the night before. Just recently I started taking my shower in the evening. This was a difficult change for me since I have taken my shower in the morning for 25 years. What I’ve discovered is that I haven’t been late to a morning appointment once in the past month. ~*~ Make a schedule for repetitive tasks. I have deviated from my schedule lately and have suffered from it. It’s easy to let chores pile up to the point that you can’t even pick a place to start. So do your tasks on the same day every week. Make a calendar to keep you on track. For example: ~*~ Mondays you do vacuuming ~*~ Tuesdays you do dusting ~*~ Wednesdays you do household laundry ~*~ Thursdays you clean the bathrooms ~*~ Fridays you rent movies and relax ~*~ Saturdays you do personal laundry and take the kids to the park ~*~ Sundays you go to church, fill your weekly pill reminder and have a nice family dinner You get the idea. Don’t forget to schedule in personal time as well as chores and don’t beat yourself up if you get off schedule. Simply regroup and, if needed, even rearrange your schedule and start again. ~*~ If your family consists of a significan other, spouse and/or children who have schedules to be met as well, make a family calendar. You can make it using a simple wall calendar, desk calendar or make one on a computer. The rules areeveryone must have access to it and everyone must write down his or her appointments for it to work. By doing this you can very easily see scheduling conflicts in advance, before they become a problem and a source of stress. Creative Outlets Sometimes I find it helpful to treat myself the same way I treat my son. When I feel overwhelmed and upset about an event or situation I “distract and redirect.” It seems to help if I can escape the problem for a short time and focus on something that is creative. Then, once I have calmed down I refocus on the problem with a refreshed mind. Creativity, being the opposite of “black and white thinking,” tends to open my “stuck” thought process and often gives me an entire new outlook. Here are some possibilities: ~*~ Writing ~*~ Journaling ~*~ Drawing or painting (I actual color in coloring books) ~*~ Gardening ~*~ Playing a musical instrument ~*~ Dancing ~*~ Flower arranging ~*~ Making homemade greeting cards ~*~ Playing a game ~*~ Photography ~*~ Model building ~*~ Sewing, needlepoint, quilting, cross-stitch, macram, crochet ~*~ Sculpting ~*~ Designing or updating a website ~*~ Scrapbooking Rountines and creative outlets may not seem like important issues, but they can be lifesavers. Terry J. Coyier is an author on http://www.Writing.Com/ which is a site for Writers. Terry J. Coyier is a 37-year-old college student studying for an Associates of Applied Sciences degree. She is also a freelance writer who writes about bipolar disorder and mental illness. Terry was diagnosed with bipolar ten years ago. She lives with her son in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex.
